Account Deletion
Last updated: 20 July 2026 | Effective date: [1st July 2026 ) ]
We’re sorry to see you go. This page explains how to request deletion of your Fortel account, what happens to your Device, your subscription, and your data when you do, and what — if anything — we are required to keep afterwards.
- How to Request Deletion
- Option A — In the Fortel App
- Open the Fortel app and go to Profile.
- Tap Settings, then Account.
- Select Delete Account and confirm using your PIN or password.
- Option B — Web Request
- Option A — In the Fortel App
If you no longer have access to the app, you can request deletion by emailing mycar@fortelhq.com from your registered email address, or by submitting a request through [WEB DELETION FORM LINK], including your registered phone number and email address so we can verify your identity.
- Option C — Business (Fleet) Accounts
If your account was created by a fleet or business administrator, individual driver removal is generally handled by that administrator within the fleet dashboard. If you are a driver and no longer have access to your fleet administrator, contact mycar@fortelhq.com and we will assist directly, subject to verifying your identity and authority to request deletion.
- Identity Verification
To protect your account from unauthorised deletion, we will verify your identity before processing a deletion request by confirming your registered phone number, email address, or account PIN. We may ask for additional verification if a request looks unusual, for example if it comes from a device or location we don’t recognise.
- What Happens When You Delete Your Account
- Your Fortel account, login credentials, and app access are deactivated immediately.
- Your active subscription is cancelled; you will not be billed again after the request is processed. Fees already paid for the current billing period are non-refundable, except as described in our Terms of Service or required by law.
- Your Device will stop transmitting live data to your account within 24–48 hours of deletion. If you intend to sell, transfer, or scrap the vehicle, we recommend unpairing the Device first (see Section 5).
- Days 1–14 — recovery window: your account enters a 14-day recoverable state. If you deactivated by mistake or change your mind, contact support@[FORTEL DOMAIN] within this window to restore your account and data in full. During this window your data is retained but not actively used to provide the Service.
- By Day 30: if the account is not recovered within the 14-day window, your personal profile data (name, contact details, in-app preferences) and your identifiable vehicle diagnostic and location history are permanently deleted or irreversibly de-identified from our active systems, no later than 30 days from your original deletion request.
- Data already shared, with your consent, with an insurer, lender, or fleet operator prior to deletion is not affected by this timeline and is governed by that third party’s own retention practices.
30 days is the outer limit, not the target — routine deletion requests are typically completed sooner once the 14-day recovery window closes. We use the full window only where needed for verification or to process a high volume of concurrent requests.
- What We Are Required to Keep
- Even after account deletion, Nigerian law requires or permits us to retain limited records for the following purposes:
- Financial and transaction records, retained for 7 (seven) years to comply with Nigerian tax and financial recordkeeping obligations;
- Records reasonably necessary to detect, investigate, or prevent fraud, or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims;
- Aggregated or de-identified data that no longer identifies you, which we may retain indefinitely to improve our diagnostic models and for research purposes;
- Any information we are legally compelled to retain by a Nigerian court, regulator, or law enforcement authority.
- This retained information is kept securely, access-restricted, and is not used for any purpose other than the one for which it was retained.
- Even after account deletion, Nigerian law requires or permits us to retain limited records for the following purposes:
- Unpairing Your Device
- Deleting your account does not automatically factory-reset the physical Device. If you plan to sell the vehicle or the Device, or transfer either to a new owner, please unpair the Device from within the app before deleting your account, or contact support@[FORTEL DOMAIN] for assistance. A Device that is unpaired but not deleted from a previous account may be re-registered by a new user; we do not recommend transferring a Device without completing this step, to avoid a new owner’s data being associated with your old account.
- Effect on Devices and Outstanding Balances
- Deleting your account does not cancel any outstanding hardware financing balance, instalment plan, or amount owed under a separate device financing agreement. Please ensure any outstanding balance is settled, or contact support to discuss your options, before requesting deletion.
- Changing Your Mind
- You have 14 (fourteen) days from your deletion request to recover your account in full — see Section 3. After that window closes and final deletion has taken place, the process is permanent and your historical diagnostic and trip data cannot be recovered. If you simply wish to pause the Service rather than leave altogether, consider cancelling your subscription instead — this stops billing while preserving your vehicle’s diagnostic history for if you return.

- If you have questions about this process, or about what happens to your data after deletion, contact Team @fortelhq or our Data Protection Officer as listed in our Privacy Policy.
